Transitioning from Google Podcasts to YouTube Music: What You Need to Know Before June 23

Google has officially announced that its Podcasts app will cease functioning after June 23, 2024. To seamlessly transition your podcast list, here's a guide on how to migrate it to YouTube Music.

Google boasts a diverse array of apps and services, yet the company has a history of unexpectedly discontinuing many of them. The latest addition to this trend is the Podcasts app, which Google has confirmed will be discontinued after June 23.

In a blog post from last year, Google outlined that Podcasts users will have the choice to either transfer their subscriptions to YouTube Music or download their list as an OPML file, which can subsequently be imported into another podcast app of their preference. Google has specified that the migration tool will remain available until July 29.

How to switch from Google Podcasts to YouTube Music

Here's a step-by-step guide to migrating your podcast subscriptions from Google Podcasts to YouTube Music:

1. Launch the Google Podcasts app on your device.

2. Tap on the ‘Export subscriptions’ button located at the top of the screen.

3. In the ‘Export to YouTube Music’ section, select the ‘Export’ button.

4. This action will open YouTube Music and prompt you to confirm the transfer of your subscriptions to the signed-in account.

5. Click the ‘Transfer as exm@gmail.com’ button and then tap ‘Continue’.

According to Google, your podcast subscriptions will be integrated as third-party podcasts into your YouTube Music library. If you prefer an alternative to YouTube Music, you can also choose to download your subscriptions as an OPML file. This file can then be used to transfer your podcasts to the app of your choice.
