Google Gemini: Potential Integration of Third-Party Music Apps on Android Devices
Google is reportedly considering enhancing its Gemini AI chatbot to enable voice-based music playback capabilities.
Google is exploring the expansion of its Gemini AI chatbot, which functions as an on-device voice assistant on Android devices, to include music playback capabilities through voice commands.
The new music-related settings were discovered within the Gemini app for Android. Users can select preferred music services under the "Music" option, with another setting available to choose a default music provider.
These settings were initially noticed by a developer named AssembleDebug, although it's unclear whether they are accessible in the latest version of the Gemini chatbot app or only in the beta build.
The feature is expected to allow users to play music from platforms like Spotify or YouTube by simply using voice commands. Additionally, there may be a song identification feature where users can ask the AI chatbot to listen and identify songs. However, playlist creation functionality is unlikely to be included.
Earlier this year, Google faced criticism when the Gemini AI tool produced inaccurate images of historical figures. The company also expanded the availability of its AI chatbot, previously named Bard, to older Android devices running versions 10 and 11. Initially, the Gemini AI app was limited to devices running Android 12 or newer versions.
In recent updates, Google introduced features allowing users to modify parts of the chatbot's responses to their liking without requiring complete rewrites of the text.
