Foxconn to Build the Largest Nvidia Superchip Plant in Mexico
Foxconn, one of the biggest electronics manufacturers in the world, has revealed exciting news—it's gearing up to build a massive new facility in Mexico dedicated to producing Nvidia’s advanced GB200 Superchips. This decision, reported by Reuters, is Foxconn’s response to the surging demand for artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
The GB200 Superchip isn’t just any chip—it’s a top-tier system-on-chip (SoC) that packs serious power, combining both a high-performance CPU and GPU. It’s part of Nvidia’s cutting-edge Blackwell platform, alongside models like the B200, and it’s designed to handle some of the toughest AI tasks out there. In fact, the GB200 has a 72-core Grace CPU working alongside Nvidia’s Blackwell Tensor Core GPUs, making it faster and more efficient than its predecessors, like the H100. This makes the chip perfect for AI servers, where heavy computing is essential.
Riding the AI Wave
Foxconn’s new factory in Mexico is set to be the world’s largest site for manufacturing these superchips. And it's not Foxconn's first venture in Mexico. The company already has a strong presence in the country, with over $500 million invested in its Chihuahua operations. But this new plant will take their involvement to a whole new level, and it couldn’t come at a better time, with AI technologies exploding in popularity.
Benjamin Ting, Foxconn’s Senior Vice President for Cloud Enterprise Solutions, has expressed confidence in the project, saying the timing is perfect. Nvidia’s Blackwell platform has already begun making waves, and with chips like the GB200 starting to ship to customers in August, the company expects to rake in billions by the end of the year.
The expansion of this facility is not just about making more chips—it's also about the future of AI. Foxconn has already proven itself as a leader in tech manufacturing, especially with its expertise in liquid cooling and heat dissipation—key factors for keeping the powerful GB200 chips running smoothly in AI servers.
Foxconn is well known for its massive role in assembling electronics for major brands, especially Apple’s iPhone. But this new move is set to expand their influence even further into the AI world. In fact, Foxconn expects its share of the AI server market to grow by 40% this year alone. And as AI servers become even more important in driving AI technology forward, Foxconn’s server business could account for more than 40% of its total server revenue.
This expansion signals just how fast AI is changing the tech landscape, and Foxconn is positioning itself to be right at the heart of it.
